How old is my piano? I am often asked this question on house visits, and it can be a fascinating conversation. Every piano is made of natural materials that cannot help but be unique, and every piano has its own unique history.
You could ask your piano tuner to estimate the age of your piano, or you could do some digging, and find out yourself!
One way to identify the age of your piano is through its serial number. On an upright piano, the serial number is usually found in the top-right corner of the action. Simply lift up the piano lid and you will find it below. Sometimes, serial numbers are more difficult to find, and may even be etched into parts of the piano (see photo 2).
With your piano's make and its serial number, you can use a piano atlas to find the year of the piano's manufacture. Feurich have an excellent online resource linked below:
