After its largest manor house was destroyed by fire in 149, it was rebuilt and rebranded as Richmond Palace by Henry VII, named in ancestral honour of Richmond in Yorkshire. Kingston's royal heritage goes back even further, as the place where Saxon kings were once crowned. Once part of Surrey, the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston are now a green and pleasant part of Greater London, nestled in the Western crook of the River Thames.
